Terms of Service

These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your use of the Motive workout tracking application (“Motive,” “the Service”). By creating an account or using Motive, you agree to these Terms.

1. The service

Motive is a workout tracking application that logs your sets, reps, and loads; calculates progressive overload targets; and (for Premium subscribers) generates training programs using AI. The core tracking and progressive overload features are free. AI program creation requires an active Premium subscription.

2. Your account

You must sign in with a Google account to use Motive. You must be at least 13 years old to create an account. You are responsible for keeping your account secure and for any activity that occurs under it.

3. Subscriptions and billing

Free trial

Premium subscriptions begin with a 14-day free trial. You must provide a valid payment method to start a trial. If you do not cancel before the trial ends, your card will be charged for the first billing period.

Auto-renewal

Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each billing period (monthly or annual) at the then-current rate. You can cancel at any time via the Customer Portal — your access continues until the end of the paid period.

Price changes

If we change subscription prices, we will notify you by email at least 30 days before the change takes effect. Continued use after the notice period constitutes acceptance.

4. Cancellation and refunds

See our Refund Policy for full details. In short: monthly plans may be cancelled anytime with no refund for the current period; annual plans are eligible for a pro-rata refund if cancelled within 30 days of purchase.

5. Your content and data

You own your workout data. By using Motive, you grant us a limited license to store and process your data for the sole purpose of providing the Service (displaying your history, computing targets, generating AI programs on your request).

We do not sell your workout data or use it to train AI models. AI program generation sends your intake details (goals, experience, equipment) to Anthropic’s API to generate a program — Anthropic’s own privacy policy governs that processing.

6. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • Attempt to reverse-engineer, scrape, or copy any part of the Service
  • Use the Service to harm, harass, or impersonate others
  • Access or attempt to access other users’ data
  • Interfere with the Service’s operation or infrastructure
  • Use automated tools to interact with the Service without our permission

7. Service availability

We aim to keep Motive available at all times but cannot guarantee uninterrupted access. We may modify, suspend, or discontinue features with reasonable notice. For planned maintenance, we’ll do our best to notify users in advance.

8. Disclaimer of warranties

Motive is provided “as is” without warranties of any kind. We do not guarantee that the training targets or AI programs generated by Motive are suitable for your specific fitness level or health condition. Always use your own judgment when exercising, and consult a medical professional before starting a new training program if you have any health concerns.

9. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Motive is not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from your use of the Service, even if we have been advised of the possibility of such damages. Our total liability to you for any claims arising from these Terms or your use of the Service shall not exceed the amount you paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim.

10. Termination

You may delete your account at any time from the Account settings page. We may suspend or terminate your account if you violate these Terms. Upon termination, your right to use the Service ceases and your data will be deleted in accordance with our Privacy Policy.

11. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms. Material changes will be communicated by email or in-app notice at least 14 days before taking effect. Continued use after the effective date constitutes acceptance.

12. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Victoria, Australia, without regard to conflict of law principles. Nothing in these Terms limits any rights you may have under the Australian Consumer Law.
